Serving Our Church

Sunday Worship Team

This team contributes to Sunday worship through a variety of roles. Volunteers are scheduled on a rotating basis and training is provided for each role. Some roles require volunteers to wear service vestments, (provided by the church).

Crucifers

Crucifers carry the cross during the procession and assist the deacon at the altar.

Acolytes

Acolytes carry torches in procession and assist liturgical leaders throughout worship.

Lectors

Lectors are scheduled to read the scriptures of the day or to lead the Prayers of the people during worship.

Chalice Bearers

Chalice Bearers assist with serving the wine during the distribution of communion.

Ushers

Ushering is a ministry of hospitality, intended to make all parishioners and newcomers who walk through our doors on Sunday mornings feel welcome and at home. The ushers greet people as they enter, hand out bulletins and help guests find a seat when needed. During the service, ushers bring the elements up to the altar and collect the offering. At communion time they direct congregation to the altar rail.

Generally ushers are scheduled in groups of two. Additional volunteers may be scheduled for special services such as Christmas, Easter, funerals etc....

The Altar Guild

The Altar Guild is made up of four teams of volunteers whose primary duties are to prepare the Altar for services, better known as Preparing the Lord's Table. These include setting up for regular Sunday services as well as special services, including those held outdoors. The commitment is a couple hours on the team's scheduled week and additional time for special events such as baptisms, weddings, funerals, Holy Week, Easter and Christmas. The Altar Guild is responsible for the Greening of the Church for Christmas and Easter and also handles flowers, candles and supplies for services.

Administrative Support

St. David's is blessed with a vibrant community of members who volunteer their time to support the administrative operations and outreach work of the church. Historically, administrative support teams have helped parish grow through the organization of visionary committees, office volunteers and groups dedicated to specific outreach purposes. Such teams arise organically from the natural ebb-and-flow of parish needs as our community evolves over time. Some current examples include,

FUNdraising Committee

Some parish income is generated through special fundraisers organized throughout the year. Our approach is to offer opportunities that are inviting, affordable, safe, and open to all to participate in regardless of whether they are active members, family, friends or neighbors in our community. Events include, our annual Spring Variety Show, silent auctions, bake sales, craft fairs and more. Volunteers are always needed to brainstorm and coordinate new and creative fundraising efforts.

Newcomer Ministry

This team connects with people who express an interest in learning more about St. David's, fosters a welcoming culture to all who visit, and hosts a semi-annual parish-wide Newcomer Brunch where newcomers are formally recognized and welcomed.
